Vacation
I checked on my work email and, one failed-review-documents-summary aside, looks like work got along fine without me for a few days.
What did we do? Well...
Monday I enjoyed a massage, followed by enjoying sushi (Sushi Town off 185th has good, inexpensive sushi, and on your birthday they whip up a complicated and lovely inside out roll consisting of three or four of your favorite sushi makings and give it to you free), then we went out and wandered about the Zoo for a while, then went to Outback and split a very nice steak dinner with bonus mushrooms. I also turned 42.
Tuesday we dug dirt, hauled sand, tacked down weed cloth, and did many small things about the house. With lots of slacking off and watching recorded things on the DVR interspersed therein.
Wednesday we took advantage of the Washington County Library systems's "Cultural Passes" program - to wit: you can check out a day pass for a family (or at least 2 adults) for FREE to a number of museums and cultural centers. Pick it up, use it, return it the same day. We used ours to go out to the Portland Art Museum and see... perhaps 28% of what was there, including the MC Escher exhibit which was sixteen kinds of nifty as it included many of his pencil studies. Yes, he drew like that as well as etched like that. Ye gods what a draftsman. I also spent a bit of time fretting over money, as this is something I do whenever I'm on vacation. This fretting was then followed up in a "Well let THAT be a lesson" manner by a gift from my father, who keeps getting more amazing as time passes. That alleviated the worry there.
Thursday was malls - and visiting things - and having a great meal at Gustav's - and more malls - and seeing Ice Age 3 in 2D which, I suspect, is to the 3D what hearing Sgt Peppers in Mono is to hearing it in Stereo - a significant improvement as you don't have to worry about all the fussy little "ooer it's STEREO" things they threw in there.
Friday - I gots me a new phone. Yes, I own a BlackBerry storm now, and I'm liking it. Still learning how to use it, and equipping it appropriately. I still have a certain amount of iPhone iEnvy but I suspect that once I get Ye Tricorder rigged appropriately (oh hell I just named my phone after a Star Trek plot device) I shan't have that issue any more.
Today - the quest for CHEESE at the Beaverton Farmer's Market was a success, and also snagged us such delicacies as fresh basil, cilantro, and rhubarb-ginger jam. Also breeeeaaadddd glorious brrreeeaaaddddd of the cheddar/garlic variety which is not long for this world. If it makes it past next Friday I shall be surprised indeed.
Oh yeah, in the midst of all this, Golden Gate Faire got cancelled. Ardenwood Faire (http://ardenwoodfaire.com) is in fact still a go and was a go before Golden Gate went kerplooey. Blame the SF Parks and Recreation Dept, kids - Ren Prod did their best. I got TWO shows a day on Friday and Sunday at Washington County Fair (meaning the Tour Of Fried Foods On A Stick is a GO on Sunday, participants willing). We'll see about Saturday.
I wound up ... gasp ... networking. Many people who are in some way connected with events which may need entertainment now have my card. This card is a card. This card is a card which survived... The Mallet Trick
Canterbury Faire opens next Saturday. I am excited and nervous and all that goodness.
